Unlike the bias-ply tyres of the past, this radial carcass allows the tire to “flex,” creating a larger footprint that reduces soil compaction. The lugs are tapered toward the centre, allowing mud to slide out easily as the wheel rotates, ensuring the tyre doesn’t turn into a “slick” in wet conditions. The 485 series is built with a reinforced bead area to prevent the tyre from slipping on the rim when operating at the high torque required for heavy plowing.
