Make Your Tyres Last Longer

Changing your tyres can be an expensive process, but it is necessary. So, how can you ensure that you save time and money by doing it as infrequently as possible?

1. MONITOR YOUR TYRE PRESSURE

Incorrect pressure is your tyre’s worst enemy! So, check your pressures regularly.
Lower your tyre pressure to avoid soil compaction. Increase your tyre pressure to minimize rolling resistance and tyre wear on tarred surfaces. But, if you would like to get the maximum life out of your tyres, never let your pressures fall or rise outside of the recommended parameters.

2. DON’T OVERLOAD YOUR TYRES

Tyre wear is often accelerated because of overloading. In fact, some estimates show that the life span of a tyre can be reduced by as much as 25-50%, solely as a result of damage caused by excessive loading.
Overloading trailers causes pressure and heat to buildup in tyres. As a result, your tyres may deform and even cave in. (The sidewall simply is not built to handle constant force of this kind.) In some cases, if the ground is particularly hard, the pressure from excessive weight can cause the tyres’ lugs to bend.

3. ROTATE YOUR TYRES

Check your tyres regularly to make sure they are not wearing unevenly. If you find that they are wearing unevenly, swopping them around is a sure way to improve the wear distribution.

4. ROUTINE TYRE ALIGNMENT

Checking wheel alignment routinely is a great way to ensure that your tyres run perfectly parallel to your tractor, improving their performance, and reducing the probability of uneven wear.

5. TYRE SYNCHRONISATION

Tyre synchronization between the front and rear tyres is vital.
If the rear axle impedes the front axle, the front tyres will wear quicker than the rear ones. And, if the rear axle pushes the front axle forward, there will be too much slip in the rear axle and therefore more wear at the rear.
